STYLE GURU BIO: Vasiliki Bitsas

If you’ve been keeping up with the denim trends of the summer or obsessively checking your shopping apps, then you’ve probably noticed that “mom jeans” are back at it once again. They were in and then out, but just this summer they have exploded and our mamas are comparing us to them back in the ’80s. Back in April, In Style released an article on “How to Wear Mom Jeans,” and let’s just say I searched for the perfect pair right away.
After combing the racks at consignment stores, I couldn’t find the right pair that fit me perfectly–they can’t be too snug in the legs, too big in the waist and since I have a pretty pronounced pair shaped body, it felt like I’d never find the perfect ones. Cue Zara. I decided to splurge on these jeans because they were trendy, yet plain Jane, just how I like them–not to mention great quality. They have the perfect amount of stretch to them, or in other words, I do not feel like I am suffocating when I sit down. I like that I can either wear flats, sneakers or oxfords with them and they all look awesome. If I’m feeling a little scandalous I can wear a shirt that shows just a little of my midriff, but it’s not too much because the jeans are high enough or I can do like I have in the photos above, a lacy camisole tucked in. My absolute favorite purchase of the summer has to be my white adidas Superstar Slip-on’s. No socks and all day comfort, count me in!
Everyone has a summer go-to look and this exact one has become mine. I am a huge accessory person–nothing too big and fancy, but little things that have meaning to me are my favorite. I paired my mom jeans and lace camisole with my favorite Nixon watch and my vintage “V” necklace I picked up at the Chelsea Market. My earrings were purchased second hand from an estate sale in my hometown of Rochester, New York and my ring was a gift from my grandmother, which she kept from when she was my age. My friends always laugh when I say I’m going to another estate sale or the market, but that is where you find treasures like these; things that someone before me once loved and now it is my turn to love them.
I am so excited to be here as a fourth semester Style Guru…wow, already?! Here’s to a RAD semester!
