Hey, beautiful people! I’m very excited to be a part of the 2015 summer Style Guru Internship this summer. This fall I will be a Junior at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College, my majors are Visual Arts as well as Graphic Design but my interests also include photography and fashion.
I was born in Central America in the beautiful country of Guatemala, but have been living in Minnesota for the last 15 years. Both are home to me and have really impacted my taste in style. I definitely hold high standards for whatever it may be that I am wearing whether it’s a simple outfit for a comfortable day, an event, or work. I don’t think my style can really be placed in a box, because it changes often. What I wear and buy, especially concerning color, patterns and accents, is something I’m very picky about. Shoes are also my obsession, probably in an unhealthy way but they can either make an outfit or ruin it—they’re essential. I’m also a firm believer that a solid pair of jeans is a must in anyone’s closet, and layering can be accomplished in any season.
During High School my sister encouraged me to join a journalism program based out of the University of St. Thomas, ThreeSixty Journalism. There I got to focus on the photojournalistic side of things covering articles on fashion, photographing events and leading projects. Early on I wanted to be a model, but as I reached puberty I realized that my height was going to be a problem, as well as being more on the curvy side if that was something I wanted to approach seriously. My parents gave me a Nikon camera when I was 16 years old, and experimenting with it I realized that I could still pursue what I wanted. To be part of creative teams like those from my favorite magazines: Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, NYLON. Eventually I began to see photography and design as strengths and inspiration. I’ve blogged about various things, shared my work and learned a lot, but I’ve merely scratched the surface.
Ultimately what pushed me to make a bolder move towards the arts and fashion were my family and friends who needed a photographer every now and then, or would ask for my help styling. They always encouraged me. I can’t wait for the adventures that await, thank you so much for reading my STYLE GURU BIO, and let’s have an awesome summer full of tips and awesome style!
In case you guys were wondering about my outfit pieces, it’s been a chilly spring here in Minneapolis so far, and I’ve been layering a lot. Here, I decided to go with my booties from Crown Vintage, a playful fringed kimono shawl, high-waisted jeans, a handmade purse from Guatemala and simple jewelry pieces with retro-style round sunglasses.
