I am really excited about joining the CollegeFashionista team this semester. Let me start by telling you a little bit about myself.
My name is Ximena, and I am majoring in History at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the alma mater of many prominent figures in the economical, political, scientific and artistic life in Mexico. My main academic interests are Literature, Art History and Asian and African studies.
Regarding fashion, I am not your typical Fashionista. I didn’t grow up trying on my mother’s stilettos or her makeup; actually I’ve always been very low maintenance. I never had a real sense of style, much less fashion. I can trace my realization back to my late teens when I discovered blogs like Tamu McPherson’s All the Pretty Birds and The Sartorialist. Around that time, I started traveling a lot and seeing all this different people and cultures inspired me to be more open about my clothing choices. I am a shy person, so I realized that the way I dressed was the best way to express myself without words. I started reading more blogs and magazines and learning about the industry. Slowly, fashion became a big part of who I am and I grew to understand my own sense of style.
Fashion has nothing to do with my career. But still, there was this part of me who wanted to take this interest to another level, so finding out about CollegeFashionista was just perfect.
Today I can describe my style as minimalistic and all about the basics with a bohemian twist, like a gray jumper, black skinny jeans, pointed-toe ballerina flats and a great bag. Think Elin Kling meets Tatiana Santo Domingo.
When I am not immersed in my school readings you can find me training for my next race, (I love running), at the movies, with a big popcorn bucket or at a museum or wandering about my next travel destination.
Here’s to a great semester!
