Hey everyone, my name is Xinyi and this is my first time as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. As an international student from Asia, I am studying Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
My connection with fashion and style can be traced back to when I learned to sew as a child. My mom taught me how to sew and I had this dream every girl had as a kid—to become a fashion designer. I kept reading fashion magazines and collecting runway photos during high school. My dream switched from designing clothes to writing fashion articles. When I saw those names at the end of articles in magazines, I felt the urge to write.
This is my first year in college and I became a contributing writer for our school’s fashion magazine, MODA. I covered stories for fashion events, wrote recipes for monthly mini issues and wrote many other interesting pieces. I gradually learned that writing for fashion is something I am passionate about. That is why I want to be a Style Guru; I want to share this passion and my thoughts on style.
Cooking delicious Asian cuisine for my friends, going to EDM raves with people who love music and reading novels on a lazy afternoon are the things I love to do in my free time. I want to infuse my lifestyle with writing and show more facets of me.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the original CollegeFashionista schools. I often see students with their own sense of style walking on the streets, passing me by. Many of those times, I thought of taking their photo and writing an article about them. This spring semester will be a beautiful year for CollegeFashionista and I’m exited to be part of it!
