Hello, my dear Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Ydel Jiang. I was born in China and grew up in Singapore. Now, I am a freshman studying at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I was so excited when I finally decided to study and pursue a career in fashion.
When I was little, I liked to observe how people dressed, and how they would behave according to the way they dressed. I noticed that garments possess an incredible power of transforming our mindsets about ourselves, and, thus, our behaviors. When we feel beautiful and comfortable in our garments, we are more confident. It’s like having a cup of your favorite coffee early in the morning before you begin your day. It gives you a boost of energy to face the rest of the day. Only this time, with confidence instead of caffeine.
I have to admit that dressing up can be tough sometimes, especially when I want to stay chic but at the same time, not overdressed. Being a busy fashion student means having a ton of homework and endless sleepless nights. After all, time is money. I always seek to come up with ways to dress up comfortable, stylish and, of course, without having to go through the time consuming trials and error process. I stick to pieces that I feel most comfortable with and develop the rest of the outfit base on that one special piece—a piece of button-down shirt.)
I like to try on different types of button-down shirts, such as a casual denim button-down. There are endless possibilities with a simple denim shirt. You can pair it with your favorite denim shorts and sneakers and simple accessories to give a casual, effortless look. You can also pair it with a pencil skirt and heels to give a more sophisticated look. There are also many ways you can add accessory to a denim shirt, which ranges from simple accessories such as delicate necklaces to bolder jewelry that add nice details to the outfit.
As a fashion design major, styling is definitely a major part of my study. I am so excited and grateful to be part of Collegefashionista Style Guru team and I cannot wait to show you guys all the talented and stylish people on campus!
