Excited doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this spring semester. My name is Ylenia Elvy-Panton and I am a junior at the University of Connecticut, double majoring in Journalism and Economics. I am the president of UConn’s fashion club, Project Fashion, and I am also a member of the women’s club rugby team. I know it sounds like I live two different lives on campus, but my love for fashion shows in everything I do.
This will be my first time working as a Style Guru and I honestly can’t wait. I’m always looking at what students wear while I’m going to my classes and now I get the chance to share my findings with you all. UConn has always been known for its athletics and I’m hoping to show a different side of the university. I am also looking forward to developing my writing style and learning more about fashion journalism.
My interest in fashion is something I’ve realized from high school, but I never explored my own personal style until I went to college. After being inspired by a new environment and new personalities I decided that it was time I show my true self in what I wore. On a typical day you would most likely find me wearing some sort of platform boot or shoe with my favorite vintage pair of high-waisted jeans. I like that combination because it gives of the illusion of longer legs and it can be worn day or night.
I’m also excited to read articles from my fellow Style Gurus. I would love to learn about new trends at their universities and share them, or maybe find similarities in the outfits we see every day. I have a feeling that the New Year will be especially stylish.
