Welcome Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Zaria Brock and I’m currently a sophomore at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina. My major is Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marketing and I am loving every second of it. Since I was young, almost everything I did revolved around the world of fashion. Whether I was catalog shopping from Limited Too or cutting my doll’s hair into the latest and greatest hairstyle, my love for fashion always shone through. Though, for a very long time, I had no idea that pursuing fashion was what I truly wanted to do.
Between 6th grade all the way up until I was about to start applying for college in 12th grade, I had my mind set that I was going to being working somewhere in the medical field. I wanted to study sports medicine or pursue the courageous dream of becoming a brain surgeon. I had taken classes related to those studies and everything in between to prepare myself for what I believed was to come. However, when I started my senior year and started to look at schools, I knew that wasn’t what I wanted to do. As I started to look back on the things that made me happy, it didn’t take long for me to realize what I was truly passionate about. I instantly remembered how my world would stop when I was watching the latest fashion show, eyes big and mouth gaping. I instantly remembered how almost everyone I knew would always ask me for fashion advice and how I would gladly help them, going into a styling frenzy. I instantly remembered how my cheeks would ache from smiling and how my eyes would squint in happiness when I talked about anything remotely related to fashion. That’s when I knew. That’s when I took my first step into following my dreams.
Now I’m in school, studying what I love in order to do what I love and be amazing at it. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to work with CollegeFashionista! Opportunities like this will allow me to not only gain experience, but it will allow me to perfect my craft, broaden my horizons and absorb the knowledge I’ll need to grow in the industry. Not only do I intend to grow in the industry, but I intend to take what I learn and apply it to my own style.
My style consists of neutrals and all things structured. I adore black, stripes, any type of scuba structured garment, intricate heels, boots, simple sneakers and minimalistic jewelry. While I love the comfort of my sleek, modern and polished look, I’m always up for taking today’s hottest trends and incorporating them into my own look.
I’m so glad you’ve chose to join me on my journey through the fashion industry and I can’t wait to see what’s in store. Until next time!
