Have you ever had a moment where you didn’t know what to wear, but you knew the exact pair of shoes you would wear with it? Well, this Fashionista knew what shoes, but not one clue for the clothing to pair with it. I knew that I wanted to create a look that would feature a pair of suede over-the-knee boots from my closet, but it had to be an outfit suitable for Florida’s bipolar weather.
At the University of South Florida, we never really know how warm or cool it is going to get throughout the day. The mornings start off chilly, and as the day progresses your outfit becomes your personal sauna. To please the demands of Florida weather, I try to wear pieces suitable for the climate.
In an effort to construct an outfit that catered to temperatures in the ’60s and low ’70s, I took inspiration from alice + olivia’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear runway collection. The alice + olivia collection focuses on “late ‘60s, early ‘70s boho with a sexy rock-and-roll vibe.” Several looks from the collection featured a pair of black over-the-knee boots combined with a sweater and shorts to capture the designer’s sixties nostalgia.
I translated the runway look into my ensemble by using a Minnie sweater, a black and white pair of shorts and a pair of black suede over-the-knee boots. I first thought of using a solid black or white cropped sweater but, my Minnie sweater just added a hint of whimsy to the look.
Get My Look: 1. Over-the-knee boots. 2. Minnie sweater. 3. Black and white shorts.
