History is known for repeating itself. Though the names and dates may change, it is the same story over and over. What used to be Peace, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll is now Peace, Love and Dubstep—everything eventually comes full circle. The fashion world is no exception to this phenomena, and as Gucci’s fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection shows, ’60s style has come back with a bang.
When I was invited to a close friend’s wedding this summer, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to give this ’60s trend a try. Weddings are, after all, a time to dress your best and a sleek shift is not only classic and appropriate for the occasion, but it also looks sophisticated and chic while easily transitioning from the ceremony to the dance floor. I was overjoyed when I found this blue and teal shift at a local boutique; the colors are bright and the pattern is cheerful and it was all around perfect for a summer garden party event. Bright pink has always been one of my favorite colors and since the pattern on my dress was so bold, I decided to wear accessories in this contrasting yet complementary color so they would still stand out.
All in all, the wedding was a wonderful and fashionable event and I wish my friends all the happiness in the world. For those of you attending weddings yourself throughout the remainder of this summer, don’t be afraid to take a fashion risk or two as you help celebrate.
Get My Look: 1. A bright shift dress in a bold pattern. 2. A statement necklace and cross-body bag in a contrasting color. 3. Color-coordinated nail polish. 4. A rockin’ soundtrack to help you dance the night away.
