STYLE GURU STYLE: '70s Throwback

The fall/winter 2015 menswear runway featured a whole host of new trends. However, one of my absolute favorites was the neo-’70s vibe seen at several designers. Marni kept the prints understated while still wild, giving us a modern twist on a classic way to express yourself—through prints. In most of the looks, Marni contrasted the pop of the button-down shirts with neutral basics for the rest of the outfit, keeping the looks streamlined

As the sun spends less and less time in the Parisian sky, I start to find it more difficult to find inspiration for my outfits. I more often than not find myself reaching yet again for my black shirt, black pants and black boots. However, I found myself getting so excited over the ’70s vibe I saw on the menswear runways for this season. I have always been a sucker for prints, especially when paired with a more modest basic. Not only does this allow the pattern to pop, but it also creates a sense of balance within the outfit.

For my ’70s-inspired style today, I raided the closet of my father dearest. My shirt (custom made…. for him, oops) is full of the bright pattern and spunk found on runways today and 40 years ago. Layered on top in these chillier times is an oversized wool jacket from Zara —I love that the structure and cut allows for balance even in its larger size. I further balanced the silhouette of the outfit with jeans from Pull and Bear—the contrast keeps you looking styled and put together, instead of just looking like you don’t really understand how clothes should fit. I couldn’t resist slipping on my go-to black booties from Zara for this outfit—I just love how they can make any look just a touch classier—and now, I’m ready to boogie-oogie-oogie all night.

Get My Look: 1. Coat. 2. Boots. 3. Shirt. 4. Skinnies from Pull and Bear.
