I decided to shake things up for this week’s article and wear something that I normally wouldn’t. For some reason lately, I have been really into preppy pieces—blazers, dress pants and shorts. I have always liked blazers, and I felt like this week wouldn’t be so bad if I decided to wear one. I don’t regret it one bit because the heat wasn’t too bad and there was even a slight breeze in the air. I could also always take it off if I get too hot. I have been listening to a lot of Taylor Swift this week, so she may be be the source of my latest style change.
For my look, I took inspiration from the Band of Outsiders spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. I combined preppy with casual pieces, which is exactly what Band of Outsiders was going for with their collection. Look seven inspired my outfit the most. I loved how the model was wearing a blazer with short shorts. I found this look to be so unusual and I never would have thought that a blazer would go so nicely with shorts. I had always thought that blazers were exclusively for pants or pencil skirts. I was pleasantly surprised when I gazed upon this model. Band of Outsiders mostly used gray and white in the collection. I decided to wear some gray, but I mostly wore bold colors. I took inspiration for my color palette from the A.W.A.K.E spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. A.W.A.K.E included pops of rust in their spring line. I found that rust would be a nice change of pace for the summer, and I found that gray and rust look awesome together.
Since I am not ready to commit to preppy completely, I decided to mix things up and make this look uniquely my own. I feel that the lace brown shorts that I wore add the perfect amount of movement to my outfit. The lace also helps dress up my look and the pom pom fringe makes my look fun.
My outfit consisted of a rust colored blazer and a heather gray crewneck T-shirt that was tucked into a pair of brown lace shorts. I added a black floral headband and pair of nude sandals to spice up my look.
A bold blazer will make any outfit pop and the right pair of lace shorts will keep your look trendy and fierce. Together, these pieces create a bohemian and preppy look that stands out from the rest. I felt like a showstopper in this outfit.
Get My Look: 1. A rust colored blazer. 2. Any heathered crewneck T-shirt. 3. A pair of brown lace shorts.
