STYLE GURU STYLE: A Color Affair

Paco Rabanne‘s pre-fall 2015 line, designed by Julien Dossena, featured a conglomeration of bright colors, unique patterns and sleek lines. The looks adopted a distinctly sporty feel that appeared feminine yet practical. The collection’s out of the box take on an athletic aesthetic illustrated the designer’s unique ability to draw inspiration from the gym and bring it to the streets for everyday wear. From zipper details on jackets to cross ties that loop around metallic openings in dresses, the line was anything short of conventional. Leather accents, sheer fabrics and jerseys were also sprinkled throughout the line. The looks played with chevron stripes in bold hues, including brilliant oranges and pinks and vibrant navy blues. Many of Rabanne’s innovative designs were topped off with the contrast of different materials to coincide in a single unforgettable look.

For my own look, I focused on Rabanne’s use of bright patterns in decadent colors. The bold geometrical pattern of my dress utilizes a similar color palette and composition to that of Rabanne’s collection. Following Rabanne’s functional aesthetic, my simple cotton shift dress with three-quarter length sleeves is also extremely versatile and comfortable. I finished my look with a fuzzy vest to create a juxtaposition of fabrics and an element of texture to my ensemble. An intricate gold locket adds a metallic detail where zippers and other small hardware are missing.

Get My Look: 1. A chevron striped dress (or try an aztec-inspired print similar to my look). 2. A fuzzy vest. 3. A detailed gold locket.
