I am often asked how I do not get bored wearing black, or feel like I am wearing the same thing every single day. While this is a valid question, for all those looking for some inspiration on how to style their all-black looks, I have some pieces of advice that I have learned throughout my years of refusing to wear color. First and foremost, I think it is important to play with shapes and styles, such as pairing tight pants with a flowy/oversized top, as well as choosing a dress with cool cutouts or an interesting hemline. This accomplishes the mission of having visible variety in your closet but also makes for a better outfit overall.
In this back-to-school look, I paired a Brandy Melville cropped sweater with a white stripe along with a pair of simple black culottes from Urban Outfitters. This combination is suitable for work if you choose to have the elastic band up, covering any skin, but can also be worn as a cropped look if you wear the pants a little lower. Finally, to add my touches of “color,” I added a pair of white platform sneakers (mine are the Fenty Rihanna ones, but there are plenty of similar ones from Superga and such), as well as a Goyard bag to carry my notebooks and laptop.
Overall, I think a look like this can be made more casual as well. It is fitted for a variety of events, whether that is pairing it with a leather jacket and heels for going out, or adding a blazer for a work setting. It is also an easy go-to, and replaces a total sweatpants/sweatshirt look while keeping comfort levels at an all-time high.
