One of my many hobbies (other than my recent addiction to watching romance movies on Netflix) includes exploring vintage shops and thrift stores. This is especially important while on a college budget.
Although I had grown up occasionally shopping at antique and vintage stores with my mother, it was not until after visiting NYC that I became utterly inspired. My familiarity with vintage goods and antiques had me completely mesmerized by the immeasurable number of vintage stores in the city. It encouraged me to scout out similar shops back home in Athens, Ga.
While I was seeking out our best local shops, I came across the perfect piece–a vintage, faux leopard print coat. It screamed “me”. It was perfect and unlike anything in my streak of monochromatic themed outfits. It had this certain “Kate Moss-esque,” and I knew I had to buy before it was in the hands of some other lucky thrifter.
As soon as the weather got cold enough, it was time to wear this coat of my dreams. Now, every time I wear it, I feel fierce and confident. It expresses my personal style: casually comfortable with a hint of sophistication and sass. Not only is it stylish, it is also ideal for the mild winters here in Georgia. It is not too bulky and still makes room for the occasional 60 degree weather–because it never gets very cold in Georgia. But for the extra chilly days, a simple turtleneck will do the trick.
Most importantly, I like dress this coat up with a pair of heeled, black boots. And my look is complete!
If you have yet to find a treasure of your own or are on the search for more one-of-a-kind pieces, I wish you the best of luck and happy thrifting!
