If you look at fashion blogs as much as I do, you will probably agree when I say that the tulle midi skirt is one of the biggest trends of 2015. While it can be difficult to even consider wearing something so flamboyant for any campus occasion, it is impossible to deny that apparel may not get any cuter than a tulle skirt. While you may not be willing to sport one with a pair of pumps when you can relax in a pair of comfortable flats and your favorite pair of jeans, there are ways to achieve a similar effect without having to go into full Carrie Bradshaw mode.
This week, I was inspired by the Diane von Furstenberg fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The collection included beautiful dresses that were constructed with various textiles and beautiful silhouettes. I noticed everything from combinations of Swiss dot stockings with sleek sateen skirts to lace panels in the middle of sleek, black gowns.
In an effort to emulate Diane von Furstenberg’s beautiful show and the tulle skirt trend, I mixed a few pieces of my own. I started with a black, tulle cocktail dress that I hardly wear. Although it still contained some of the adorable vibe that you would get in a midi skirt, it was not overwhelming and could be worked into almost anyone’s wardrobe. After all, who doesn’t love an LBD?
Following through with my inspiration from the Diane von Furstenberg show, I decided to make my look more unique by wearing my black, lace crop top over it. Luckily, they were the same shade of black, and the bottom of the top rested perfectly at the cinched waist in the dress. I added more feminine touches to my look with a velvet bow headband and a Swiss dot sash around my waist. To lighten my look, I added nude accessories that made it more wearable for the day.
All in all, this was one of my favorite looks yet. It was so fun to see the gorgeous, feminine pieces from the Diane von Furstenberg collection, and it was even more thrilling to encompass some of the elements into my own style!
