STYLE GURU STYLE: A Muted Color Scheme

Who doesn’t own a pair of boyfriend jeans, boyfriend shirts, boyfriend jackets or shorts? If you haven’t noticed, all of these clothing items have the noun, boyfriend next to them. Women for the past years, even decades, have looked at men’s fashion and incorporated some of their trends and styles to women’s apparel. So, why not use the trends from the latest Men’s New York Fashion Week into our everyday look?

Normally for a spring/summer collection, Fashionistas/os like us expect to see radiant colors on every garment on the runway. However, fashion designers such as Michael Kors, John Varvatos and Brett Johnson, have changed it up. Beiges, whites, grays and olives are all the muted colors seen on the runway. Some of the designers dared to add some color to a few of their garments, but these colors were muted shades of pink or blue.

As I kept noticing throughout the designers’ collections, I was loving every color of their color scheme. My personal style revolves around muted colors and small accessories that correlate with the color scheme of each season. Thus, this trend has definitely caught my attention and I’m ready to blend it with my everyday look.

As my summer internship comes to an end, I want to leave an impression at work by incorporating John Varvatos’ muted color trend for my work outfit. However, this outfit can totally be worn for different occasions, such as work interviews, happy hours, back to school or meeting the parents. My outfit consists of my grey circle skirt, white structured blazer and a patterned sleeveless shirt with black, white and grey colors.

Of course as any Fashionista, I accessorized my outfit with silver flower earrings, which continues the muted color trend of the John Varvatos’ spring/summer collection. A girl as always needs a purse. My long strap black Calvin Klein purse is the most convenient and perfect item to carry around the city for any event. Walking to class or to work, you need comfortable shoes and Circus by Sam Edelman has the perfect black sandals to walk around in, especially in this scorching summer. To wrap it up, sunglasses are always a must and these silver aviators are the picture-perfect item to fully emulate the muted color trend that has made me become a true muted colored follower.

My clothing garments, accessories and shoes all translate the muted color palette fashion designers have shown throughout Men’s Fashion Week in July. As true Fashionistas/os, we always got to be open to every trend even if we are translating a fashion trend from men’s collection to women apparel.
