I always eagerly anticipate the new fashion season, particularly for the Christian Dior runway show. The designs, hair, makeup and location are always exquisite. This year’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection was no exception. The designs were feminine with delicate lighting and soft silhouettes. Raf Simons opted for light fabrics such as chiffon that were not heavily embellished. He let the structure of the designs speak for themselves. The show was filled with scalloped skirts, shorts and crop tops in an awry of whites and blacks. To balance the shorter hemlines of the skirts and shorts, Simons added long blazers over the outfits. It helped to balance the symmetry of the look.
Inspired by the Dior show, I chose a long blazer to wear. A blazer is a classic piece to have in your wardrobe, because of its ability to transform an outfit into a more sophisticated look with little effort. I paired it with a silk top and a pair of black, cropped trousers. The pants remind me of a pair of lounge pants, because of the relaxed fit. So in order to create a chicer look that would work well for a dinner date or a night out with the girls, I choose to balance the look with a pair of ankle strap high heels. By adding more formal pieces, it allows the trousers to transition from a day look to an evening look without much work.
To finish the look, I added a pair of studs and wore loose curls with a touch of makeup. An added touch was a simple, gold necklace that stands out with the all black outfit.
I think that a blazer and a pair of trousers are a great alternative to dresses in the fall when going out, as they add a touch of warmth and practicality. They are great for creating a layered look with different fabric choices and colors.
