Fashion-forward, on-trend edgy pieces are a must-have for any Fashionista. These pieces need to be ultra cool and still super wearable. One of the best basics to experiment with is denim. It can be easy to fall into the trend of skinnies or boyfriends, but putting yourself into an out of the ordinary pair is so worth while. This season, flares are all the rage, and the cropped flare is the edgiest sister of those, making a splash this season.
Inspired by Sonia Rykiel resort 2016, I chose a pair of dark cropped flares to pair with square heels. In this collection, Rykiel paired the denim and simple heels with a boxy, busy sweater top. Throughout the collection, she used a lot of bold colors and striped patterns. I chose to incorporate this into my look using a mustard colored plaid sweater detailed in black. Taking inspiration from her layering, I tossed a structured jacket over my shoulders to add more angles to the look.
With cropped flares, the wrong length or a bad shoe pairing can really shorten the legs and ruin the style. Dainty shoes, simple heels or slick boots are all good pairing choices for any denim that is meant to highlight footwear. To style flares, especially when they’re cropped, it’s best to go for a simple cropped or fitted top, and with shoes that won’t weigh the look down. I chose a seasonally appropriate cropped sweater and some trusty black heels to highlight the denim.
This outfit is based around my 11 Inch High Riser Crop Flares and Cropped Inkcheck Sweater by Madewell and a pair of chunky heels from ALDO. I accessorized with gold bangles and a black leather bag by Marc Jacobs. I topped these pieces off with a black peacoat from Calvin Klein.
It’s easy to spice up denim for an interesting outfit, but it’s more interesting to use denim to do the spicing. Investing in a pair of statement denim opens up your wardrobe to a whole new realm of looks beyond jeggings and straight leg and will make you feel and look like the coolest, most fashion-forward gal around town.
