STYLE GURU STYLE: All-In-One

Katy Perry sang about California girls in 2010, and now Elie Saab is reminding us why they are so unforgettable. Glamorously inspired by West Coast palms and beachy breezes. The ’70s California fashions are undeniable in Saab’s resort 2016 collection. Summer is my favorite time of year, which is why I’m so into Saab’s latest designs. The “shady days and bright nights” style of this collection was seen on the runway in multiple forms from flowy dresses to more structured tuxedo pants. Personally, my favorite look was the jumpsuit.

Trends come and go, but the best trends never completely fade as modern reinventions from influential designers keep them in style. Saab constructed his garments to be light-weight and moveable. Beaded accents and fabric detailing added some flare to the vintage ’70s one-piece, transforming it into an all-in-one summer look.

This resort collection channelled the California girl within my midwest wardrobe. A loose fit was key to many of these pieces and helped spark my take on this trend. The black top of my jumpsuit is signature to Saab’s usual black and white palette, while a colorful pattern on bottom was my own twist on the West Coast theme. My silver flip flops also followed the beach motif and basic silver jewelry kept this outfit casual. A few rhinestones on the face of my watch and pop of color in the gems on my necklace were the finishing touches to this look because I think you should always take the opportunity to add a little sparkle and shine!

Jumpsuits are the perfect balance between a dress and an ordinary pair of pants. They give you all the functionality of pants without losing the feminine feel of a dress. The ideal qualities of jumpsuits are exactly what make them so transformable. I chose to keep my accessories low key but this jumpsuit could easily be dressed up. A statement necklace or chic pair of heels can take any one-piece from day to night.
