Articulation—a word most commonly used to describe the way in which we speak; the styling of linguistics that we use to communicate a message, thought or feeling. However, when I think of articulation, I tend to stray from the concept of vocalization and lean more towards visualization. I think of colors and patterns, shapes and shades and about the message we convey through what we wear. Essentially, my mind goes straight to the world of fashion.
So, when I stumbled across Nomia’s ready-to-wear line and noticed a contemporary overall-like dress, I immediately had thoughts swirling through my mind: 1. I love me some overalls, 2. I don’t typically dress in a contemporary manner and 3. I need an overall dress stat!
Whilst rummaging around through the Melrose Trading Post, I stumbled across a fine looking overall dress, one sort of similar to Nomia’s, meaning it had two front pockets and two straps, but close enough for me! When I pull inspiration from designers I don’t ever feel the need to closely mimic their look; I use it more as a guiding line to keep me on a path to wearing something a little out of my element, yet still something that I wholeheartedly love.
Overalls, in the meantime, can be a little tricky, but once you master them you can practically do anything…well, maybe not, but kudos to you for thinking optimistically. *Clicks tongue twice and winks simultaneously*
Complementing my overalls, I wore a simple black, lace, halter bralette, a red snap back and some red high-top Converse to tie my look together. Note to self and to you readers: wearing overalls on a sweltering hot day is equivalent to the ever so unpleasant feeling of sweaty legs on a leather seat, I do not recommend this AT ALL.
While Nomia transported consumers to a clean, contemporary ready-to-wear look, I articulated this look into something more street-ready by adding the combination of sneakers with peeping socks and a kind of edgy tiger gold chain. That’s the beauty of fashion: you can take any item of clothing or really anything at all and turn it into an original, yet completely unpredictable outfit.
Get My Look: 1. Converse. 2. Overall dress. 3. Snapback.
