A collection that has inspired me lately is Balmain’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line which debuted during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week last September. The collection was inspired by the after-party of their show from the previous year; think fashion icons like Rihanna in sheer mesh T-shirts and the “Free The Nipple” campaign. Though the line was free of any nip slips it was full of sheer fabrics, large cutouts and flowy silhouettes but what I really enjoyed about the collection was the mostly monochromatic color scheme of the collection. A majority of the outfits were monochromatic in some shade of a primary color in addition to some patterned pieces. In addition to that, I enjoyed how the designer Olivier Rousteing pieced together the outfits with a separate piece for the top, jacket and bottom.
Today, I decided to incorporate my favorite elements of the Balmain spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection into my ensemble. I went for the all-black color scheme wearing a black cropped leather jacket with a black crossback surplice bodysuit and a black cotton skater skirt. For jewelry, I wore a simple silver necklace and rings to complement the silver accessories on the jacket and skirt. I wore my go-to, favorite MAC lipstick in the color Captive to add just a hint of color my outfit’s color pallet.
I enjoyed how Rousteing put together separate pieces to form a whole ensemble which is what I was inspired by here. I love dressing in all one color and the trend has definitely been super popular on and off the runways in the past few seasons. One thing to keep in mind however when deciding to go for the monochromatic color scheme is to make sure that your desired color matches each other because nothing is worse than when your blacks don’t match. Am I right?!
