STYLE GURU STYLE : Back to Black on Black

For those of you that know me, you know that when it comes to my wardrobe black is and has always been my go-to. Don’t get me wrong, I love print, color and pattern. I’m especially a fan of these on other people, however, for some reason when it comes to myself no matter how hard I try, I always go back to wearing black. Now, this is no means a “bad” thing; black is the foundation of many Fashionista’s wardrobes for the simple fact that it is so versatile. It works with everything, everywhere, at any time. How can you go wrong with that? Well, you just can’t.

Okay, now back to the outfit. Over the past couple of years, I have developed an obsession with leather jackets. I love the super edgy vibe they give off and paired with distressed denim they create a complete look. This leather jacket, in particular, is my go-to because the silver hardware can make any outfit immediately look more put together. It’s slightly cropped, which makes it a great layering piece over elongated T-shirts and paired with high waisted denim. Cropped T-shirts may not be the most appropriate choice of apparel in the brisk Canadian fall but hey, if the look is right then anything goes. I find that by showing some midriff, it breaks up some of the black, as does the distressing in the jeans and gives the look a little bit more dimension.

Now onto one of my favorite parts of the outfit: the accessories! I decided to stick to the monochromatic look and added an oversized blanket scarf (added warmth was absolutely necessary). Blanket scarves are one of my go-to’s in the colder months; who wouldn’t love an accessory that doubles as a blanket during long lectures in freezing classrooms? Sunglasses are also one of my favorite add-ons because they are an easy way to upgrade any outfit. With this look, I opted for a pair of silver mirrored glasses that complement the silver hardware on the jacket. Trust me, on days when your dark under eye circles just can’t be tamed, a pair of cute sunglasses can be your best friend.
