Say goodbye to your abundance of thick layers because spring is officially here! With the temperatures slowly starting to creep up, we no longer have to recycle the same three outfits. We can finally pull out the dresses and skirts that were hidden in the depths of our wardrobes. While some are quick to make the transition from the dark monochromatic, winter uniform to colorful brights and pastels, I prefer to take slower, more gradual progressions. My look is heavily influenced by the 3.1 Phillip Lim spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, which primarily consists of an earth tone palette of forest greens, blues and sandy beige. The inspiration for this collection in words, “I was thinking,” he said, “about where things start. They start from a seed.”
In my attempt to endeavor a similar result, I selected this navy pinstripe button-down tunic to be the focus point of the ensemble. Despite the casualness of this outfit, I still felt a bit uptight immediately upon slipping the shirt on. While pinstripes have made several appearances from runways to fashion blogs, they are commonly associated with professional finance men. A prime example would be Leonardo DiCaprio or Jordan Belfort’s power suit in The Wolf of Wall Street. I paired the tunic with a simple, white crop top and black jeans. I took note that some of the models scampered down the runway in metallic heels, so I opted for a pair of metallic flatform sandals for a more casual and comfortable option.
When it comes to accessorizing, I tend to keep it quite minimal. I slipped on my retro Casio watch, it basically lives on my wrist and two chokers to add some elements of my own style to the mix.
