After seeing the looks in Rick Owens‘ fall 2015 collection, I was inspired by his creations. I can only describe his looks as heavy, layered, muted and modern. I loved it so much that I tried to recreate it myself. Of course, runway fashion is a bit too “out there” for everyday life, but if you can look past the eccentricity there is something that normal people like you and I can take away from it. Rick Owens employed a lot of long maxi skirts in his looks. I saw a lot of black, brown and gray colors in his collection as a whole. The tops he chose to make were all sleeveless to accentuate the shoulders. Shoulders are something that goes unappreciated; we tend to ignore it as a whole, but his looks exposed the shoulders.
I decided to take up runway looks and put my own spin on it. Obviously, I can’t afford original Rick Owens or anything remotely close. However, when there’s a will there’s a way. I chose to wear my sleeveless black crop top. This has a round neck, which means that the only exposed things, other than my midriff, are my shoulders! With this recreation, you could choose a full-length shirt, but I liked incorporating the youthfulness that is associated with a crop top. I chose black because it fits into the color palette of his collection. I went for a patterned maxi skirt with muted colors because it would add a little more personality to the outfit than a solid-colored skirt! As for the shoes and jewelry, I did my own thing. I wanted the statement necklace to complement the geometric pattern in my maxi skirt. As for the shoes, I chose platform black sandals to make this look more appropriate for warmer weather even though it contradicts the dark colors.
