STYLE GURU STYLE: Bauce Status

Bauce adj : 1: usually someone, male or female, who epitomizes what it means to be in charge, on top of their game, and in their bag. 2: fashion forward and business savvy.

As a bauce, I take myself very seriously. My hair has to be laid and slayed whether it be in its natural, curly state or styled with a weave. My face has to be beat—eyebrows on fleek, sharp eyeliner, extended lashes, contour on point, and a highlight as bright as the sun. My outfit is always a sight to see mainly because of how I wear it as opposed to what I’m wearing. I have the capability of making a thrifted $80 outfit look like an $800 outfit. Confidence is key!

Honestly, I do a lot of my shopping at thrift stores and consignment shops like Plato’s Closet. There are so many hidden treasures. However, I also spend a lot of time in Akira, Adidas, Steve Madden, Forever 21 and H&M. It’s easier to find one semi-expensive item in H&M and dress it up with a few things I might find while thrifting. It’s all about balling on a budget! My style is a representation of my personality. I’m very humble and down-to-earth, outspoken, and witty. I love laughter and adventure, I’m poise and chic, ghetto fabulous, vibrant, and creative. Therefore, every outfit I wear is completely different from the last! I love heels, boots, oversize shirts, coats and jackets, fitted gowns, skinny jeans, mini skirts, etc.

As for my makeup, I use whatever works best for me. I’ve never let society dictate what eye shadow works best for brown girls, etc. I wear what looks good on me and I wear it well. However, I do shop with a lot of black owned cosmetic lines and of course, MAC. About half of the makeup I own comes from my local beauty supply stores or Walmart. Quality and effectiveness are the most important factors when it comes down to choosing products.

Not only do I take my appearance seriously, I take my business seriously. The success of my brand is based off of the success of my look. People gravitate towards me because I look the part. People pay attention to me because I demand that they do with how I carry myself. To quote Princess Nokia, “Do you see the format? This ain’t no floppy disk. This is an original PDF.”

In order to truly reach bauce status you have to embody everything that I’ve mentioned in this article. I’ve taken the original word “boss” and transformed it into something more chic and flavorful. I am a bauce because of the way that I speak. I am a bauce because of the way that I walk. I am a bauce because of the way that I dress. Most importantly I am a bauce because of my confidence.
