With Spring Break and summer vacation rapidly approaching, putting together casual but fun outfits is a must, especially if your travels lead you to the beach. Packing a few classic basics that can be mixed and matched allows you to save space in your suitcase, but still look stylish all week long! Deciding on which pieces in particular to pack can be hard, but there are a few essential items that come to mind when thinking about having fun in the sun and sand.
Based on the fact that beachwear should never be too stiff or formal, the Madewell spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection perfectly embodies that easy going and cool vibe that every girl strives for on vacation. The collection features flowing silhouettes, denim, earth tones, simple embellishments and classic pieces. Wide-brimmed hats and simple slip-on sandals are the accessories I highlighted from the collection. The overall theme of the collection is classic fabrics and shapes mixed in with a bohemian edge. Every outfit in this collection would work well for a day by the ocean, but I picked out a select few elements to base my ensemble on.
I wanted to capture the simplicity of the classics featured in the Madewell collection, but made sure to infuse the boho elements that fit both the collection and my own personal style. I started with a semi-distressed and loose gray button-down. I paired it with cream lace shorts to create a color and texture contrast. A tan wide-brimmed felt hat continues on with the earth tone palette and adds an extra detail with the beaded trim. Plus, hats are great for blocking the sun at the beach! Simple slip-on platform sandals are comfortable to wear and make your legs look a mile long!
The accessories for my outfit are simple, mainly featuring a beaded choker with a hanging pendant. The neckline of the shirt works perfectly for accentuating a statement choker. My hair was twisted into two braids to keep the outfit casual and continue with the bohemian whimsy. I also kept the makeup simply, with natural lips and gold eyeshadow to highlight my fresh tan. Overall, this outfit is perfect for a sunset walk on the beach or an oceanside dinner with friends!
