STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Is The New Black

With spring weather just around the corner, it’s time to shed the heavy layers of winter clothing and lighten up. Taking style inspiration from the Givenchy fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I decided it was time to start dressing for the weather I wanted, rather than the weather I was experiencing.

This collection focused on neutral colors, feminine silhouettes and bold patterns, all of which are staples in my wardrobe. Keeping that in mind, I opted to wear an outfit that was a little simpler than those shown on the runway to make it wearable for my everyday life. I paired a black slip dress with an oversized oatmeal colored cardigan, to mimic the oversized jackets the models wore on the runway. The slip dress I chose had a lot of volume in the skirt, and the intricate fringe detail added a little pop to this otherwise simple dress. These solid neutrals were perfect pieces to transition into my spring wardrobe. Rather than pair this ensemble with over-the-knee black boots, I chose to wear knee-high socks under my tan riding boots, to make this outfit a little less wintery.

This outfit may seem simple, but the details are what make each piece a standout. The fringe and lace details on the slip dress make it a more interesting piece than just a plain black T-shirt dress. To complete my outfit, I chose to wear my hair down with loose waves, similar to that of the runway models. As it was sunny, I wore my new favorite gold aviator sunglasses, along with some bangles and a long necklace. I also decided to carry my go-to black leather tote that I had monogrammed in gold, for a personalized touch to a staple piece.
