When I think of summertime fashion, vibrant colors in shades of orange, pink or turquoise come to mind. I think of cotton sundresses, denim jackets and beaded sandals that I could walk for miles on the beach in. However, Kate Spade in her spring 2016 ready-to-wear fashion show had a different kind of vision for warm weather fashion. She chose to mix contemporary clothing silhouettes with favorite summertime accessories to gi ve the normally more relaxed styles a bit of structure.
Echoing Kate Spade’s sentiment, I chose to beat the heat in a classic black and white ensemble, while pairing the look with a wicker bag and heels to take my otherwise simple outfit to the next level. Wicker bags have made a huge comeback this season, appearing in collections from Kate Spade, Patricia Nash and other popular retailers worldwide like H&M. Straw purses can help tone down an outfit, keeping it looking effortless and not overdone. Like in Kate Spade’s show, wicker purses have the power to transform contemporary work-acceptable ensembles into fun, flirty outfits for daily wear.
While I kept my accessories at a minimum to keep the relaxed look of my outfit, I did choose to add more polish with my makeup. Black and white ensembles give you the perfect opportunity to rock one of my favorite accessories: a bold lip. Do not shy from adding pops of color to your outfit with your makeup. If you love wearing bright pinks and blues in the summertime like I do, a vibrant lipstick like Bite Amuse Bouche lipstick in “Kimchi” can definitely make a statement.
Warm weather fashion does not mean that bright colors have to be the center piece of your looks. Try wearing contemporary colors like black and white a la Kate Spade and then adding in some summertime accessories like sunglasses or a straw hat to give an interesting spin on an otherwise regular look. If you still love incorporating vibrant shades into your outfits, give a bold lip a try. You will not regret it – I promise!
