STYLE GURU STYLE: Blushing Over Lace

Disappointment is a foreign noun at an Elie Saab show. Not one applique appears out of place, and though incredibly intricate, no garment even comes close to being gaudy. When it comes to the designer who always delivers perfection plus more, it comes as no surprise when a new story is painted with even more delicate details than the previous collection. In Elie Saab’s resort 2016 collection, glamour thrived in the most subtle sense. The majority of silhouettes shown hung loosely on the models with texture and color palette being the main variants. Blush made a frequent appearance on a variety of materials from fur to lace and chiffon dresses. My favorite look from the lineup was look one. Various types of lace were sewn together from collar to hem in the same shade of blush to bring attention to the art of the material.

I was so drawn to the blush looks because they were so unmistakably feminine, yet so varied. Even if you were to wear sneakers with boyfriend denim and a blush top, that subtle tinge of pink would soften the other masculine influences of the ensemble, proving that femininity is not dependent on ruffles, ribbons and pearls. Also worth mentioning, it is a color that can be transitioned seamlessly from season to season. While you could wear a blush cashmere sweater with a trench coat in the winter, you could just as easily wear a pair of blush shorts with blush ballet flats during the summer. It is a refreshing color that is not as bright as a summer yellow nor as dense as a charcoal gray.

I was inspired by the intricate blush lace gowns in the first look to work the color and a bit of texture into my outfit. I wore a pair of blush lace shorts that reminded me of the delicate laces used in the look. In order to make it practical for treks around campus, I paired it with a pair of flat gladiator sandals and a slit sleeve white blouse. While I took a more dainty approach to the look, you could change alter it for an edgier taste with a denim top and a pair of leather booties. Overall, blush is a beautiful color that is just as flattering as it is wearable. I would encourage all of you Fashionistas to try it this season!
