STYLE GURU STYLE: Bohemian Rhapsody

The ’70s are still alive and thriving, according to the looks seen on the fall 2015 ready-to-wear runway. In particular, Anna Sui’s collection showed strong bohemian influences through her use of pattern, texture and shape. She mixed suede, fur, velvet and many other textiles to create a feeling of luxury. The bright colors and patterns make the collection new and fun. She uses the layering of loose silhouettes to further emphasize the care-free spirit of the bohemian trend.

Taking a look straight off of the runway and into the classroom isn’t reasonable for most college students on a college budget. However, it is easy to incorporate subtle aspects of the hottest trends into an outfit ready for campus. Especially when it comes to embodying the boho trend, it is all about being yourself.

In my outfit, I wore patterned bell-bottom pants to highlight the use of prints in the collection. I layered a faux-sherpa vest on top of a flowing coral tunic to create a similar loose layering effect to many of Sui’s looks. Brown suede booties rounded out the warm color scheme of my outfit, but the same look can be created by using cool colors like purple and green from the collection.

I kept my makeup simple, but used a similar shade of lipstick to the coral of the tunic. I left my hair natural to fully embrace the vibe of the ’70s! Don’t be afraid to be a trendsetter and let your favorite designers influence your wardrobe choices. Just think of all the totally groovy looks you could create!

Get My Look: 1. A faux-sherpa vest. 2. A solid colored tunic. 3. Any patterned bell-bottoms.
