Fashion designer Veronica Etro went completely ’70s retro in her recent spring 2015 runway show at Milan Fashion Week. It breathed a bohemian hippie vibe, a line that was made for the genuine and carefree souls living for summer concerts like Coachella, and once upon a time, Woodstock. Each garment was individually hand crafted with frayed textures, tribal print patterns and embroideries infused with soft hues of nudes, cool blues and warm reds. Every piece was unique and carried its own with Native American- and nature-inspired designs, accessorized and embellished with fringe, feathers and beads. Each outfit was layered and draped at ease, flowing with each model’s stride.
As I am now home for the summer, a pair of printed bell-bottoms that my mom gave me as a welcome home gift instantly inspired me, and was perfectly aligned with Etro’s elegant bohemian line. I paired mine with a white chiffon flowy top with ’70s style sleeves. Up close, the shirt was embroidered with an intricate design. I then accessorized with a crème crochet choker, a gold-chained brown fringe necklace, gold bangles and assorted rings. I complemented the brown fringe necklace with a brown-fringed cross-body bag and brown strapped platform heels. I topped off this look with vintage-inspired round aviator sunglasses, which immediately gave off the grooviest of vibes.
The warmer months are the perfect time to let your style roam and possibly find its very own laid back bohemian side. It’s a style that is as peaceful and authentic as a warm summertime breeze. My summer goals for you are to be spontaneous, explore and always try new things. Step outside of your comfort zone, and before you know it, you might just be comfortable. Wear whatever you want when you want, and never be afraid to completely express yourself, especially through fashion. Peace and love, my fellow Fashionistas/os!
