My inspiration for this look comes from Ronald van der Kemp’s fall 2016 couture collection. Although a very toned down version of his ’80s look, my outfit follows along the lines of bold stripes and a high-neck retro bodysuit. I am obsessed with how he styles his outfits; for instance, he goes from a very bold statement to multi-dimensional and polychromatic complementary pieces. In the midst of the chaos of his style, there is always some type of rhythm that is what makes his collection so appealing and practical.
With this collection, it is easy to find a style and make it your own. Black is my favorite color to wear and gold is my go-to when accessorizing, so naturally I based my outfit on the color black and accessorized accordingly. Bold colors are rarely found in my wardrobe, but finding these fun striped, black and white trousers were perfect.
In the look book for this collection, the model is wearing a red blouse and red pumps, with a green and white striped pencil skirt. I took this look and modified it. Firstly, I toned down the color scheme and wore gold accessories that instantly created a more laid back street style. The platform sandals and glasses make my outfit more casual, while my gold accessories dress it up by adding dimension to my outfit. I love this look because it still reminds me of the ’80s without being bold in every aspect of the style.
