After a weird winter season, spring is finally here! True Fashionistas, however, know that spring isn’t only exciting for its beautiful flowers and warm weather, but for the 2016 Fashion Week shows! After almost a month of tracking down the runways in New York, Milan, Paris and London, high levels of anxiety finally calmed down after getting sneak peeks into this season’s fashion trends.
Even though most shows were absolutely amazing, my particular style is more compatible with Paris’ Fashion Week haute couture runways, in which the ‘classique’ ateliers ruled the runway. Within these were Chanel, Balmain, Valentino, Loewe, Givenchy and Dior. Yet, the runway show that impacted me the most was Valentino’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear. This show surpassed everyone’s expectations by making a ballet dream come true. Using tutus, silk, footless tights and other delicate pieces, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli aimed to stress the finesse in their simplicity.
Even though Boston’s weather and social events during school days don’t seem to be the ideal setting for Valentino attire, I was truly inspired and hypnotized with their new fall collection. The loose dresses were breathtakingly beautiful, but there were so many aesthetics that stunned me. The collection’s color scheme was definitely something I adored! Sarah Mower on Vogue describes, “The beam of the fashion spotlight always searches out the avant-garde and the different—and this season it picked out the simpler, more flowing shapes…and the extraordinary things in chartreuse, bottle green and champagne color silk velvet.”
One of my favorite colors to wear is the traditional pale pink, or “nude.” But, since I always wear it, I was driven to wear other colors depicted in Valentino’s runway show, such as bottle green and champagne. I decided to use my floral 7 For All Mankind pants because they showcase the perfect combination of Valentino’s fall 2016 colors. These pants were the perfect piece to wear on a rainy day in Boston. This is because they weren’t too bright for a dark, pouring day, but at the same time, its flowers resemble spring.
Also, I wore a champagne-like beige sweater that was thick enough to keep me from the cold, but at the same time remained within my desired Valentino color scheme. For locals, this sweater can be found at Primark at around $16, which serves perfectly for a basic that can be combined with almost any outfit. To keep up with Valentino’s avant-garde style, I tried to replicate their show’s “bare foot” aspect by using my white Nike sneakers that followed my pants’ whiteness. Even though my kicks are not Valentino’s nude ballerinas, they are essential for walking around the crowded city on a rainy day.
