Nothing says hello more prominently than the chilling first knock of winter at your door, making you fully aware that the cold is here to stay. Sure, the snow is pretty at first sight, but don’t let it deceive you. That stuff is wicked and doesn’t stay pearly white forever! Layers are my best friend when the cold strikes; however, it takes a certain je ne sais quoi to piece together a seamlessly cohesive ensemble. My little trick is sticking to a neutral color palette. I feel that the majority of my wardrobe consists of black and creme colored garments anyways, but keeping within a specific color palette will make it that much easier to mix and match to create multiple looks with just a few strong wardrobe pieces.
My look was inspired by the kate spade new york fall/winter 2015 ready-to-wear collection. As always, kate spade likes to add a feminine twist to even the most casual of outfits whether they’re incorporating different prints and textures or embellishments and appliqué bows. They’re sure to leave you wanting more of the fabulousness! This collection featured a primarily neutral palette consisting of black, cream, grey, navy and added in a pale blush color and a muted red. They incorporated buffalo check, plaid and polka dot prints and accented everything with either a jewel-embellished neckline or an effortlessly feminine bow appliqué. I loved all of the sweaters and the casually chic shirt-dresses.
I incorporated much of the same color palette as the fall/winter 2015 collection as well as sporting the classic bow details that kate spade followers have come to love. Due to the wet and freezing weather, comfort was sustained by wearing my favorite black Hunter Rain Boots and brushed black hi-rise Wunder Under pants from lululemon. I also wore a kate spade bow-neck sweater in a light tan color with a black bow accent and my matching kate spade color block bow gloves. For an extra layer on top, I threw on my herringbone-print quilted vest from J.Crew. I accessorized this look with my favorite kate spade metro watch and gold glitter studs, as well as my go-to black saffiano leather kate spade handbag. My makeup stayed pretty natural looking but with an all over neutral look, I decided to add a pop of color with my NARS Priscilla pink lipgloss.
Get My Look: 1. Any neutral, embellished sweater. 2. A cute printed vest. 3. Rain boots.
