Valentino’s spring 2015 couture runway line was the perfect balance of sophistication and youth. The toned down colors and modest hemlines created a refined and romantic aura for the collection. But the collection was not solely erudite; playful patterns such as floral prints, geometric shapes, different words and child-like images gave Valentino’s line a youthful vibe as well.
I aimed to recreate a look that echoed the playfulness and class of Valentino’s collection. I used romantic colors and a touch of fun patterns—two prominent aspects of Valentino’s spring line. I paired the staple piece of my outfit, an airy taupe dress, with a purple and white floral halter bralette by Free People. I added springy sandals to the look and topped it off with simple silver jewelry pieces. My dress features braided straps and a high-low cut that gives off a relaxed vibe. The taupe color is classy yet still youthful especially when paired with the floral pattern of the halter bralette. The darker colors in my sandals coordinate with the color of my dress while the brighter colored beads resonate an energetic and springy vibe. Adding bangles, a simple long necklace and an assortment of rings matched the sophistication and youthfulness seen in Valentino’s line.
The spring 2015 couture runway collection by Valentino showed me how to create looks that reflect my youth yet display my maturity. I believe that this is a pivotal skill to learn especially being a college student. College is a point in time when we are growing up and becoming professionals but we are still holding onto a piece of our childhood—the exact scenario that is displayed through Valentino’s collection.
