STYLE GURU STYLE: Camouflage—The Best Way to Stand Out

For spring, one trend I have been dying for is the monochromatic outfit (and I’m not even sure you can call this a trend because the look is timeless). The word “monochromatic” can be broken down into two parts: “mono” meaning one and “chromatic” meaning color, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to wear one solid color from head to toe. Even though dressing in solid black works well, I think mixing various shades of one color, as I did, makes the outfit look a lot less costumey.

While I stuck with a pink color palette, another amazing color for spring is orange! A bomb outfit would be these light orange trousers, a raw sienna tank top, and, if it’s cold where you live, you could throw on this orange shearling jacket. While this outfit may be out of your comfort zone, you probably dress in monochromatic outfits all the time (think of that black jeans-top-boots-leather jacket combo you wore in winter). With all of the flowers in bloom, color inspiration is everywhere, so pick your favorite color and go for it.

So maybe if you wear an all pink outfit around campus and you’ll get a couple stares (of admiration or confusion, I’m not sure yet), but you’ll be tackling a classic style that can become your go-to look. Taking fashion risks and turning heads can help you grow as a Fashionista! So while I may have camouflaged into this pink wall, I’m happy to have definitely stood out everywhere else!
