Sass & Bide’s pre-fall 2015 collection gave us a little something different than their usual as the brand went through a transition from their founding designers Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke to Anthony Cuthbertson, who has designed for more minimalist houses like Max Mara and Joseph in the past. Although the official transition didn’t occur until fall 2015 there was an obvious influence by the new creative director. A transition from the highly-structured tailoring, sweeping panels and dense decorative beading, which are Sass & Bide staples; this collection’s mood was a little more serious. The color scheme was nearly monochromatic and the silhouette was boxy and relaxed. Channeling its inner New Yorker, the collection mixed minimalist style with a hint of rocker-chic
I loved the monochromatic color scheme and mix of edgy fabrics with more relaxed, casual styles. Modeling off the look I saw in the collection, I paired my favorite leather moto jacket with a heather gray knit crop top, high-waisted destroyed boyfriend jeans and white, high-top Converse. Since the jacket is already a statement piece with its silver embellishments, I wore no jewelry and let the bold fabrics speak for themselves. I went for the monochromatic look with mostly black, white and gray and gave the outfit a little pop of color with a dark plum lip. The awesome thing about wearing all black and gray is that any color you want to accessorize with looks great!
This collection has inspired me to mix casual and more sophisticated pieces together and to embrace my inner desire to wear all the same color. While the Converse and boyfriend jeans give the ensemble a casual feel, the detailed jacket and bright lip help to add an edginess to the outfit which balances each other out perfectly. The result is a casual cool look that is comfortable, refined and fabulous!
