We’re finally in the awkward stages of winter’s transition into spring. And with that comes awkward outfits that don’t know if it’s warm or cold outside. With the weather as erratic as Kanye’s Twitter (sorry!), it’s hard to know how to dress. My favorite transitional piece is chambray. It’s light enough for warm weather and versatile enough to layer with sweaters and scarves. Banana Republic’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection embodies this perfectly. The pieces vary from warm days to chilly nights.
I took inspiration from Banana Republic with this look. Underneath, the black tank top and striped bandage skirt’s dark colors scream winter. But, the amount of skin exposure they allow says, “Hello warm weather!”
How to tie it all together, you ask? Chambray, of course. I love this particular shirt because it’s oversized and can be layered over just about anything. Pair it with leggings and black boots for an edgier winter look, or over a sundress for spring inspiration. Did the temperature suddenly increase by 20 degrees? Well, this look is just as rad with the shirt tied around my waist. Banana Republic’s spring collection is amazingly versatile, and so is this look.
Let’s not forget accessories. Arm candy adds much-needed detail to this outfit, while white Converse sneakers make walking around campus a breeze. Since the colors are so muted, I wore a pop of bright red lipstick to add some excitement.
Chambray isn’t limited to button-downs. Chambray dresses and skirts are just as light and breezy, and they’re super versatile. Even chambray suits are a part of Banana’s collection. So, next time the weather seems uncertain, throw on some chambray to brighten your day.
