STYLE GURU STYLE: Channeling Chanel

Chanel was one of the first couture brands I knew of when first getting interested in fashion. I remember cutting out the logo from magazines and taping it into my agenda in sixth grade. Sixth graders didn’t understand why I would want a black and white design rather than all the colorful, crazy stickers they all had. The line introduced me to elegance and it’s so amazing to see how the company has evolved while still keeping that original sophistication. I’d say it was a great brand to be familiarized with when becoming fascinated with the fashion industry like I still am today.

When I think of Chanel, I think tweed, beautiful detail and all around classic silhouettes. Time after time Karl Lagerfeld continues to emulate the class and sophistication that Coco Chanel created in the beginning. In the Chanel fall 2014 ready-to-wear show there are plenty pops of color while still implementing the classic neutrals like black and gray. To translate this look to warmer weather while still getting inspiration from the collection, I kept it very classy and chic. I wore a tweed shell top with a silky black skirt. I love wearing black and white and this is such a classy way to do so. To give my outfit that pop of color the show had I wore a bright orange-red lipstick. This particular show had lots of lace-up sneakers and boots but I translated that to some black lace-up heels. What is so great about this look is that it’s so easy to adjust it to summer months. Chanel’s classic looks and textures make it easy to shift from season to season. Tweed can come in different color hues and shades for each time of year.

A black skirt and tie up black heels are staples and can be found almost anywhere these days. If tweed is hard to find, a bright metallic embellished top or a brightly colored silk shirt can still emulate the Chanel line.
