kate spade’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear line was said to be inspired by the whimsical author, Roald Dahl. Given my love for any kate spade collection and my appreciation for Dahl’s pieces, I chose to attempt to mimic this collection in my own wardrobe. This particular line features many different styles, but checkered patterns seem to be a pretty constant feature throughout the collection. The line also emphasizes the simplicity of black and white. For this look, I decided to combine the two characteristics for an ultra-fashion-forward trend.
To make this look, I took a black and white checkered button-down and paired it with my favorite pair of black skinny jeans. Given that the weather is still unsure of where it wants to be, I rolled up the sleeves of this lightweight shirt to keep me cool, but also give the look a little more edge.
I kept the look simple with a plain black tank top underneath the button-down, as a checkered pattern can be a statement of its own and you want to keep the focus of the outfit on that pattern. I chose the black skinny jeans because these will always be a staple in my wardrobe.
I added an interesting necklace that does not distract from the look, but adds a little something to the entire piece. I finished the outfit with a pair of black Converse, as this particular collection includes a lot of simple flats to finish each outfit. What could be more simple and comfortable than a pair of Converse?
This outfit is an easy take on the latest collection from a designer I cannot get enough of. Keeping the black and white tones adds an edge to the outfit as though the colors are simple; you will definitely stand out. This fall, try replacing the statement necklace with a bold new pattern instead!
