One of the newest inductees to my list of favorite movies is Begin Again. In the film, Keira Knightley’s character Greta croons a deliciously sarcastic song titled “Coming Up Roses.” That same tongue-in-cheek attitude appears in Alexis Mabille’s resort 2016 collection, where the designer plays off the tired French silk scarf. Trends among the pieces include boxy shapes, lace and metallic jewelry. White is a prominent color in the collection, be it paired with the ever-fashionable black or a pop of either salmon or turquoise.
I decided to take a slightly more formal spin on the collection. In the past, I have featured quite a bit of lace and while I do love the textile, I elected to highlight a floral burnout fabric in this outfit. The opaque and transparent sections of the floral design mimic the appearance of lace, but are not quite the same, lending a feeling of individuality to the otherwise basic shirt. In order to balance out the boxiness of the large shirt on my small frame, I matched the T-shirt with a bodycon, ruched pencil skirt. In terms of shoes, I slipped on a pair of sandals with quite a hefty ankle strap, perfect for walking while klutzy.
The cherry on top of this monochromatic outfit is a touch of rose gold. Sensing a certain floral theme yet? I try not to play favorites, but this pair of round lens sunnies from ASOS definitely make it into my top three…and I’m not just saying that because I’m looking out through rose-colored glasses.
Get My Look: 1. White floral burnout shirt. 2. Black pencil skirt. 3. Pair of thick ankle-strap sandals.
