Ralph Lauren’s pre-fall 2015 collection was everything we would expect from him: classic and simple with a bit of a Western influence. His models strutted down the runway in warm shades of camel wearing everything from double-breasted cashmere jackets and tunic sweaters to silk scarves and suede trench coats. Using the same color but in different shades in nearly all 32 of his pieces could have been boring for any other designer, but Ralph Lauren knew how to keep his viewer’s attention. The combination of the neutral colors and various textures kept the lineup interesting, while his choice of embellishments kept me wanting to see more. Fringe and beads decorated cozy sweaters, sheer blouses, practical bucket bags and the hems of crocheted knit dresses.
My closet was put to the test when I had to imitate one of Ralph Lauren’s Western looks from this runway show. To keep the camel color theme, I paired my honey colored skinnies with a brown blouse. Since I don’t own anything with fringe detailing, I finished the outfit with my brown wide rimmed fedora to give the ensemble that cowboy flair.
To be honest, I never would have thought to put together these pieces until I was inspired by Ralph Lauren’s collection. His pre-fall 2015 runway lineup showed me that a monochromatic outfit could still be powerful and interesting. Keeping it simple is sometimes the best way to keeping it chic!
