I have to admit, I was a little weary of the culotte trend that has been popping up pretty much everywhere. At first, they reminded my of clothing you would see in the colonial era. However, after putting on a pair of these while out shopping, I fell in love. Forget what I thought before, the pants would never cut it in the 1600s; they are too chic. Designers are taking note of this fashion statement and running with it. The resort runways of Tracy Reese and Chanel have both welcomed culottes into their collections this year, and I think it’s safe to say that this trend is catching fire and no one is wanting to put it out.
Seeing these pants adorn so many runways, I decided to take the trend into my own hands and create my own version of it. No. 6’s resort 2016 collection places culottes in the spotlight. Look 28 caught my eye, so I choose to recreate that in a more summer-appropriate way. (After all, summer is not the ideal time for a trench coat; we can save that for the fall). So, with my stripped culottes in hand, I added a sleeveless duster jacket and panel strapped heels to make an outfit that was crisp and clean. As far as accessories go, I wanted to keep the look fairly simple (and let my pants do all the talking) so I grabbed my silver statement necklace and my favorite Michael Kors tote, tied a neck scarf around the handle and called it a day.
