While shopping the other day, I noticed that culottes were all the rage, as I was sifting through the racks at some of my favorite stores. I came across a pair of really fun, purple and orange kaleidoscope culottes at Forever 21. Although I have never owned culottes, I decided to step out of my comfort zone to try a new trend. Culottes are like a wide palazzo pant, but capri length.
While I was brainstorming my ensemble to go with these capris, the Zimmermann resort 2016 collection inspired me. This collection had loose, patterned pieces with mute colors and I especially loved the sharp geometric patterns that contrasted with the relaxed, feminine clothing. One look that struck me in particular was a model that wore a white, bell sleeve crop top with black and white patterned culottes. She paired her loose outfit with fringe earrings and wrap up sandals.
Similar to the white top the model wore, I wore a collared button-down crop top. Both my culottes and the model’s culottes have a geometric pattern. My own spin off the runway look was to wear a burgundy floppy hat to take cover from the sun and I finish off my Zimmermann-inspired ensemble with lace-up black sandals.
Sometimes a runway-inspired outfit is lying right inside your closet. I took a few affordable separates from my own wardrobe and was able to make a street style version of Zimmermann’s collection. Another perk of my resort look is how relaxed and comfortable the culottes are and they give a look of a midi skirt, but are as comfortable as pajamas.
Get My Look: 1. A white, boxy crop top. 2. Patterned culottes. 3. Floppy hat.
