As new trends arise each season, I see it as the perfect opportunity to change up my wardrobe. My challenge this fall was to merge a ’70s girl next door look with edgier cuts and accessories. To help break away from my usual purchases, I looked to Assembly New York’s latest collection for some inspiration.
The Assembly New York spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection embodies a variety of cuts that redefine how we picture the human silhouette. Though loose fitting, the pieces of each outfit come together to create a flattering shape. In addition to this trend, each look in the collection features a simple, yet striking, solid black neck accessory. Complementing the “disappeared heroine” vision that designer Greg Armas incorporated into these looks, the bold accessory essentially ties the collection together. Armas’ designs consist of versatile pieces that can easily be achieved by your everyday Fashionista/o.
I was a bit hesitant to buy these pants at first because skinny jeans are my usual go-to. However, these flared pants from Zara are the perfect length for me and are incredibly flattering. Playing off of the shapes and cuts of Armas’ designs, I paired the flared denim with a simple sweater. I finished the look with my favorite choker, replicating the ones spotted in the Assembly New York collection. I kept my hair and makeup simple for a softer effect, while the bold choker and Vans give the look a casual edge.
Get My Look: 1. A bold neck accessory. 2. A flattering pair of flared jeans. 3. A simple top.
