Summer is slowly but surely coming to a close and I know we are all a little bummed to say goodbye to all of our summer adventures, but of course, the style shall live on! Denim on denim has been all the rage since the start of 2016 and I have to say I am loving every minute of it.
Despite the heat, denim on denim has made its mark in summer fashion and this will definitely not be its last seasonal appearance. Inspired by Miu Miu’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection I decided to put together my own denim ensemble. Most of the Miu Miu designs consist of a darker denim overcoat or jacket blended with a lighter denim shirt or dress. The collection features a variety of denim styles in multiple shades and textures that somehow flow together perfectly to create high-fashion denim masterpieces.
Influenced by the collection I chose to wear dark washed denim over a light wash dress. Keeping in mind that it is still summer, I decided on a lightweight button-up dress with quarter sleeves from H&M. A dress is a perfect way to keep this look “summery” and stay cool. Pairing the dress with a dark denim jacket and vintage Nine West lace-up ankle boots definitely adds a grunge element to the outfit. I chose boots with a chunky heel, instead of pumps like most of the looks in the collection, simply for maximum comfort. Because who wants to be cute and uncomfortable—that’s right no one!
Don’t forget small details can make a big difference, like the jacket being rolled to the elbow just enough to show the bottom of the dress sleeves and the dress collar placed over the jacket. These minor details can really make a difference with this outfit, showing the blend of the two denim tones and a bit of individuality. Of course, along with the denim craze, chokers are super on-trend this year. Therefore I added a black choker to both tie the look together and add a touch of sass!
Denim on denim is great for all seasons, I can hardly wait to see what next season’s denim looks will be!
