Throughout the summer the mixing of trends from different decades has played an integral role in all of my fashion choices. I constantly found myself throwing on things that would spark an, “Oh my god I wore those/that when I was your age!” reaction in my mom, grandmom and sometimes even my great-grandmom. Its so funny how fashion truly is its own recycling bin!
So lately I’ve gotten more into the ’90s era; mostly because it seemed to be one of those all black eras, and of course we know I love black! But for my outfit today that grunginess mostly comes out through the little details in my outfit rather than the colors. I’ll start with my high-waisted Levi black shorts. The little rips and silver studs placed on the shorts add that edgy and almost messy look to this outfit that the ’90s Fashionistas lived for (quick tip: buy high-waisted shorts from vendors on Etsy. They are super cheap and will give you a completely unique pair of shorts you are sure to love.)
Now for me although those shorts scream grunge the black tattoo choker is what really makes the outfit. Chokers have made such a comeback in the last year. They have literally been the holy grail accessory for Fashionistas everywhere. And what’s so great about chokers is that they literally come in every style imaginable. Whether you’re preppy, edgy or traditional, there will always be a perfect choker waiting for you. But for me I stuck to the classic black tattoo choker. Black tattoo chokers are essential to finish off any grunge look. I mean just re-watch the movie “Clueless,” you’ll constantly see Brittany Snow rocking them. Heading down to my feet I paired this outfit with some classic adidas sneakers. I truly do not think adidas have ever went out of style, I personally have been wearing them since I was in elementary school, but maybe that’s just me! Lastly, to tie in the mixing of trends, I paired this outfit with some retro ’60s round sunglasses. I swear every single time I wear these glasses someone yells to me, “hey what’s up John Lennon?” But I guess being compared to a famous Beatles member isn’t too bad.
As a Fashionista you don’t have to be confined to one trend and one era. You can mix and match to find the best fit for you and your style. Whether it’s grunge, retro or something completely different I know you will find the perfect match!
