Classic styles allow fashion to be timeless. Keeping trends new and innovative is incredibly important in the fashion business; however, so are the staples that will never go out of style.
One of these timeless pieces is the Burberry trench coat. The length, fabric and color may change season after season, but as you can see in Burberry’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, the trench remains a precious part of the brand. Burberry Creative Director, Christopher Bailey proves that the classic trench can tie together any look, extravagant or simple. He uses black, white and gold to maintain the brand’s signature class, while incorporating pastel colors to emphasize the season of the line.
Taking inspiration from Bailey, I based my look around one of my favorite jackets, a cropped trench coat from Zara. I have the piece in tan and black, but to keep with the line, I went with the latter. I paired the trench with cuffed shorts, but due to the fact that it is currently below freezing out, I went with over-the-knee socks to make the look more weather appropriate.
The best thing about the trench coat is that although it is typically made for the spring, it can be transformed into a multi-seasonal piece by either layering or throwing it over a summery set. I refuse to wait to wear mine until spring, so here I matched it with a cozy sweater. To finish off the look, I went with a mod shoe that was more suitable for snowy weather than the sandals in the show: my platform Opening Ceremony ankle booties.
Altogether my look is a combination of classic and trendy, just as Burberry has done in its spring 2016 ready-to-wear show.
