When I first think of denim I think of uncomfortable and restricting skinny jeans or a ’90s mini skirt, but the Kenzo ready-to-wear spring ’15 collection proved to me that denim can be both comfortable and modern. Whether it’s an oversized denim shirt, zip-up jacket or flowing maxi skirt, the fabric contrasts with the dressy lace and feminine silhouettes in the Kenzo collection to create casual and effortless looks. Denim is perfect for layering because it’s neutral, making it a versatile and a necessity for any Fashionista. The show also had a variety of eye-catching outfits from silky tank and skirt combos to futuristic structured dresses, but the denim pieces stood out as the most wearable.
To get a look similar to those seen in the show I wore an oversized chambray button-up. My light denim shirt has become a staple in my wardrobe and is especially useful for the transition between winter and spring weather. I always find myself throwing it on over a skirt, dress or a tank top and jogger pants because it’s the perfect light layer for a warm New Orleans day.
I love layering my shirt with sweaters and jackets in the colder months, but when spring comes around I want to lighten up my look. Taking a hint from the Kenzo show, I paired my top with a cool white leather skirt. The casual denim makes the outfit great for any daytime activities from class to a lunch out with friends. To add to the futuristic feel I got from many of the outfits and styling in the show, I wore metallic silver sneakers. I also grabbed a purple structured purse to add a pop of color.
