STYLE GURU STYLE: Don't Leaf Me

When I think about vacation, I think about a tropical island with a gorgeous beach with clear blue water surrounded by palm trees—doesn’t that sound perfect right now? Palm trees have got to be my absolute favorite types of trees. Unfortunately, New York City is not suitable for those beautiful trees.

Since I was young, I’ve always been a huge fan of the Olsen twins, from their days as Michelle on Full House to their present day lives as successful women in the fashion industry. With inspiration from their Elizabeth & James spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I decided to incorporate a leaf print top in my outfit. This trend really works for this season because when I think of summer, I think of the outdoors and spending a lot more time with nature. From the Elizabeth & James collection, I could see the leaf print pieces being transitioned into the cooler seasons because of the deeper color palette used.

In this outfit, I put together a leaf printed top and a pair of white shorts inspired by look 19 of the Elizabeth & James collection, switching out the culottes for shorts. In their collection, they strayed away from the typical green color and went deep colors such as black and burgundy, but I stuck to the greens. With my usual outfits being very monochromatic, the pops of green in my top called for some more black, which is why I added my favorite hat and my lace-up flats. I feel that this outfit is very versatile, allowing it to be a casual outfit as well as an outfit appropriate for a more dressy occasion.

Get My Look: 1. Leaf print dress. 2. A black hat. 3. Lace-up shoes.
